Books You Gotta Read

Where Buddha Meets Business

You Are a Badass at Making Money, Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero

I listened to  You Are a Badass at Making Money, Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero on Audible. I love that she reads the book.

As an aside, I’m a big fan of all authors reading their books. When I look to download a new book, if the author doesn’t read it, I really hesitate big time if I want to read it. I usually listen to an excerpt first. There’s just something about hearing the book in the author’s words who wrote it.)

Back to the book- this was funny, light-hearted, serious, and interesting.  Jen’s a really terrific storyteller. Even her chapter headings align with her character and who she is.

For example, chapter 1 is called “Why You Ain’t Rolling’ in the Cheddah. And my personal favorite – chapter 5 – “The Hollerin of Your Heart,” and not to be outdone, chapter 10 – And Now, a Word from my Account…”

Her writing style is fun, interesting, and easy to read, and I felt like she was talking to me over a cup of really good coffee.

This book will help you get your head straight if you’re struggling with money. It wasn’t until I read T. Harv Eker’s book The Millionaire Mind that I cracked the code in my business by looking at my mindset.

Jen suggests you take a long hard look at your relationship to money and how many of us have twisted views from parents, family, etc. The stories we keep telling ourselves and that we’ve programmed into our minds about money stop us from reaching our potential.

Plus, one of the many things I loved about this book is Jen comforts us by telling us there’s nothing wrong with us. I mean, it’s not like we were ever taught how to think or make or get money in school.

One of the things I discovered many years ago is that money is simply energy. It comes, and it goes. It all depends on your energy and attraction.

Paying attention to your mind and thoughts around money and having or not having or fear about it is REALLY important, especially if you want to attract more of it!

The biggest thing she tackles in this book is how to help you look at and change your mindset around money.

It really is just a means to get things and even help people. So if you want to connect with your good friend who will help you get through your fears and issues around money and set some goals, I suggest you get a copy of this book or download or listen to it on Audible.

Something else I think you need to know is — I have a BIG curiosity about the law of attraction, the mindset of CEOs, their drive, and how they built something from nothing.

I’ve read (and listened to) A LOT of books on this subject, and it still fascinates me… (I will have more posts on the law of attraction books – promise!)

Lately, I’ve been listening to many more books on my daily walks. I’ve been able to finish a lot of books this way. (I try to read at least 4 – 6  books a month, or more if I can. I’m addicted to learning. There I said it. 🙂

I wonder if, by listening somehow, it gets into my brain or maybe even my subconscious since I’m using headphones. Ummmm, probably not… It sounds good, though…

What I don’t like about my audiobooks is I can’t highlight them or dog-ear the pages. I really like my printed books, even though they’re taking up a lot of room on the ole shelf…

So then I just buy that book after I’ve listened to it!

I know, crazy, right, it works for me, and in the long run, it will benefit you because I have a TON of books to write about now!

Some Specifics and Quick Book Review to Entice You to Read It!

Quick Summary: This is a down-to-earth, funny, kick-in-your-pants type, and sometimes light-hearted book about how to change your attitude towards making and having money. It focuses on mindset and our set emotions around money. I would categorize this book under money and the law of attraction.

WHO Ought to Read this Book: If you want a kick in the rear about how to make more money and also want to take a good look at your own thoughts and behavior on how to improve, then this book will definitely help.

Why Read this Book? This is perfect if you’re anything like me and always searching for more insights on following my calling and making money. It’s not just about changing your attitude and mindset about money. It’s also about when you find your life purpose and what you’re good at, the money will come.

A Couple of Things You Will Discover: Jen gives you several action steps and things you do right now to shift your mindset about making money and being successful. The best are the visualizations (she also encourages meditation and journaling) that she helps you create. This book is a little woo, which I really like because money is directly connected to the law of attraction, in my experience. Your attitude and mindset are everything.

Quotes (from the book) that Will Inspire You:
Money is Everywhere:
“Not a day goes by where we don’t use money, or use something that was paid for with money, or have an experience that is somehow connected with money. Not. One. Single. Day. and yet, we rarely, if ever, stop to investigate how we feel about money, how we speak about it, or even what the hell money actually is.” (page 64)

Get Rid of those Useless Stories We Tell Ourselves:
“We choose to stay in our stories because we get what I call a false benefit from them – We get to keep our identities as a broke person, we get to blame our brokenness on things outside ourselves (I don’t have time, I have seven kids, the economy sucks, I can’t find a pen to write down my to-do list with), we don’t have to push ourselves outside our comfort zones and risk failing, looking like an idiot, losing money, changing and becoming different from our family and friends – the list goes on and on.” [90]

You are WHO You Hang out with:
“When it comes to money, who and what you surround yourself with has a huge effect on how you perceive it and feel about it. Your environment helps define what you consider to be expensive or cheap, a wise or stupid purchase, and how much you’ll allow yourself to make. In fact, here’s a sobering exercise: take the average income of the five people you hang around with most, and you’ll most likely find yours.” [185]

Now You’re Talking:
“We have all the power within us to choose and create realities that totally kick ass.”
