The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The Alchemist is one of those books I remember exactly when I read it and what was going on in my life that nudged me to pick it up. Right after I finally decided to come out (back in 2000), this woman totally broke my heart into a million pieces. I remember it so vividly because this book has so many amazing quotes about the heart.
This one saved me – “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering -itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
Coelho and The Alchemist also guided me to leave corporate America and start my own business. It’s about listening to what the heart wants. “Listen to your heart. It knows all things because it came from the Soul of the World, and it will one day return there.”
This incredibly captivating and inspirational tale follows Santiago, a shepherd boy with a burning desire for adventure and a dream of finding hidden treasure.
It’s about the hero’s journey and a profound exploration of destiny, self-discovery, and the pursuit of one’s true purpose.
Coehlo has so much wonderfully poetic prose throughout the book. His philosophical musings will take you on an exploration of your aspirations and how important it is to listen to your heart. Are you on the right path?
